Post 344: Grungy Art Journal Page- Be You

Hi friends!

I'd like to share a Grungy Art Journal Page- "Be You". I'm creating art journal pages on separate sheets and will bind them together later. For this art journal page, I wanted a very grungy and worn out look. I sponged on black acrylic paint through the Icraft branch stencil, then added color with Lindy’s sprays. Then did stamping with black archival ink, doodling & mark making with a black marker and white gel pen. Then dabbed on some white gesso in random areas and added the butterfly die cuts. Then created ink splatter and scrunched up the panel & adhered it to a black mat.

List of Supplies:

ICraft Branch Stencil
Dylusions Cling Stamps- Inbetweenies
Dylusions Cling Stamps- Basic Backgrounds
Gina Marie Designs Side Profile Small Butterfly Die
Black Fine Point Sharpie
Black Acrylic Paint
Tim Holtz Foam Alphabet Stamps
White Acrylic Paint
Lindy's Gang Sprays
Prima's Heavy White Gesso
Black and White Cardstock
Ranger's Jet Black Archival Inkpad

Here are some photos of the page:

I am playing along with the following challenges:

1. Mixed Media Monthly #42- Silhouette (silhouette of the branches and butterfly)
2. Butterfly Challenge #90- used both: Handwritten (sentiment) and Lemon- yellow color
4. PaperArtsy Topic 18- Torn, Ripped, burnt (distressed the edges of the papers with a paper deckling tool here)

Thanks for your time :)
Love reading your sweet comments.
Stay Blessed.

  2. I love this! I think my favorite is the way you used that black. I am always skeptical of using black because it is one of those colors that is difficult to cover up. But you did an awesome job. Gorgeous page!

  4. Love this so much, Preeti!!! You are such a fabulous mixed media artist!! I adore the grungy look of this. The bold use of black, the awesome stenciling, the beautiful butterfly, and those magnificent doodles and handwritten sentiment all combine to put this art journal page just over the top!! Thank you for being one of those brave souls who is entering BOTH parts of the Butterfly Challenge this fortnight!! :) Hugs!
