Post 142: Mixed Media Upcycled Paper Bag

Hi friends :)

Thanks for visiting my blog, I truly appreciate it :)
I'd like to share a mixed media upcycled paper bag today :) Mother's day is in May and so I thought I would make something on that theme. I had a paper bag lying around from a Dominos Pizza Delivery and I had saved it because I love Kraft paper, so I decided to add some mixed media elements to it and experiment. The color scheme used is browns, blues and white. The stamped focal image is of a lady wearing a saree and the background images consist of a pregnant lady, sentiments which read "I love you" and "mom", a flower and a heart.

Synopsis of the process:-

Gesso was applied on the paper bag to prep the surface. Then colors were added in layers using sprays, zig markers, paint and an aqua brush. This was followed by background stamping using archival ink. On Bielo cardstock the lady image was stamped and colored with zig markers, then the image was roughly torn and distressed to give a worn out look. A brown colored craftyscrappers die cut was taken and to add color and texture to it, some blue acrylic paint was applied to it and then the distressed image was stuck onto the die cut. Then on a piece of cardstock, gesso was applied, colors were added using sprays and paint, some stamping was done and then this piece was torn into pieces and colored on the edges. The die cut with the lady image and these prepared pieces were layered and adhered to the paper bag using Tombow mono multi glue. Some more stamping was done in the background, few drips were created with sprays and then in the end white and brown splashes were made with gesso and spray respectively.

  5. WOW, it's amazing to think that you took what some would deem a "piece of garbage" (paper bag) and turn it into a gorgeous piece of art. If you use this bag to give a gift to someone, they will surely never want to throw it out. It could be framed it's so beautiful. What a wonderful way to upcycle something. Thanks so much for sharing your art in our challenge. I love having you play along with us.
    Blessings to you,
