Post 446: Mixed Media Layout- Inspire + Pictorial

Hi friends!!

Today is my first DT post for AB Studio by Aga Baraniak. I played with their beautiful stencils and have created a Mixed Media Layout- "Inspire".

The inspiration behind this layout came from the lovely photo of the dancer, I loved the angular pose she made and wanted to use the geometrical design stencils from my DT kit in this layout :)

Step-by-Step Pictorial:

1. Added color to the background using the ink smooshing technique (with a piece of acetate) and Gansai Tambi watercolors 

2. Did background stenciling with AB Studio's Stencil 72 & Catherine Pooler ink

3. Added more background stenciling with AB Studio's Stencil 3

4. For texture and shine, applied Nuvo's embellishment mousse (aquamarine) through AB Studio's Stencil 54

5. For the photo mats, created a DIY pattern paper by using Distress Ink & AB Studio's Stencil 59

6. Did background stamping using grey archival ink, distress oxide & mini stamps by Prima & Mudra 

7. To accentuate the fan design, outlined it with a watercolor pencil and went over the outline with a water brush 

8. Created die cuts for layering using thick black cardstock

9. Gathered the supplies for layering, used 3d foam tape in some places to add dimension, used die cuts, flowers, gauze & thread to create texture. 

10. In the end, adhered a few sequins and gems, added some art stones with soft matte gel for added texture and created some ink splashes

Post 445: Clean & Simple Mixed Media Layout- Inspire

Hi friends!!

I'd like to share a Clean & Simple Mixed Media Layout- "Inspire". This was part of my DT work for Mudra Stamps, all the details including a pictorial are HERE. I was inspired by the beautiful photo of the ballerina, so I knew, I had to create a soft layout around it.

Process:

1. The base is a 30 by 30 cm piece of 300 gsm Watercolor Paper. To this, color was added using Lindy's sprays and the ink smooshing technique (using a piece of acetate). This gives an artistic, organic look. 

2. Did background stenciling with archival ink and Mudra's Doodle Cluster Stencil. 

3. Heat embossed Mudra's Chipzeb Chipboards (Fancy Flourish, Victorian Rectangle & Words #1) with Lindy's Embossing Powder- to get a shiny & dimensional look 

4. Prepared the photo mats by using papers (in coordinating colors as the photo) from Mudra's Beary Hugs Paper Pack, distressed their edges and darkened them with archival ink

5. Did background stamping using Mudra's Mini Stamps (Checker, Go Confident, Special Day, Old Script & Rustic Diamond) & shades of grey & black archival inks 

6. Added ink splatter all around the composition using a thin tip brush and coordinating colors of ink 

7. Layered all the elements and adhered them using strong liquid glue. To add dimension to some of the elements, 3d foam tape was added. A foam flower was created using Mudra's Gardenia Dies. A bit of gauze was added under the flower for texture. And to add sparkle & shine, Mudra's Harvest Mix Couture Sequins were added with Glossy Accents.

8. To add more texture to the layout, mini and regular art stones were added mixed with Soft Matte Gel. In the end, white ink splatter was created to tie the whole piece together.

Post 444: Floral Mixed Media Card- Guest Designing for Art Playground Blog

Hi friends!!

I'm thrilled to be Guest Designing for the Art Playground's June Challenge. The theme is "Go with the flow" and the moodboard colors are soft, pastel shades :) For all the details about the challenge, please click HERE.

I loved the soft & pretty colors in the moodboard, so I decided to make a floral card. "Creating flow/movement" in any art work is very important. For this card, I used the flow of the inks in the background, the floral vine chipboard (by creative embellishments), the placement of the flowers & the sentiment stickers to show vertical movement. The eye gets drawn, first, towards the top, at the fairy (creative embellishments chipboard) & the large flower and then moves down towards the other two smaller quilled flowers. Post 443 : Celebration Card- Inspiration for Craft Stamper Magazine's TIMI Challenge, June

Process:

This is a 5 by 7 inch card. The central panel is 300 gsm Canson watercolor paper. I sponged on the geometrical designs in the background using distress inks and distress oxides (in brown and blue colors) through Stencils 72, Stencil 61 & Stencil 3 by AB Studio (Aga Baraniak). Then I darkened the edges with black soot distress ink and stamped on the beautiful mandala design using Uniko's Marvellous Mehndi Stamp Set. Then colored in the mandala using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. The sentiment is a die cut from WaffleFlower. I matted the panel in black and adhered it to a kraft card base.
