Glittery Peacock Diwali Card

Hey folks!

I love participating in craft challenges because they give me set guidelines to follow and so I feel as if my thoughts and creative drives become channelized! For this post I have created a Diwali Card. Diwali or Deepawali is an Indian Festival which is also called the festival of lights. It is celebrated with a lot of pomp and show in my country. This is when we spend time with family and friends, get dressed in our best clothes, have festive delicacies called mithais, light candles and diyas (earthern lamps), pray to the Gods for the welfare of our family and to bestow us with peace and prosperity. It is a wonderful time and the whole month of October is full of festivals and celebrations in India. So in keeping with that festive mood I decided to make a diwali card and I had to add glitter to it to lend it that bit of bling which all celebrations need!

Here are some pictures of the card.

I was inspired by the color palette of the teal, aqua, blue and green. I chose the peacock because it is a very Indian symbol being our national bird also because it is the symbol of joy, grace, beauty and majesty!

Here is a picture of me adding glitter powder on top of the texture paste which was spread through a stencil (peacock design).

Process & Supplies used:

1. Stamped Background of Peacock Feathers - So basically I started off with a piece of white cardstock 5" by 7". I used the peacock feather stamp from the Mudra Peacock stamp set and inked it using different shades of blues and greens (Zig brush markers, distress ink, pigment ink-- I mixed and matched colors from all these inkpads and markers). Using this I created a background of peacock feathers by stamping randomly on the cardstock in different directions and using different color combinations within the color palette.

2. Creating the glittery peacock- Then I placed the peacock design stencil on top of the cardstock and used washi tape on all corners to adhere it temporarily, so that it doesn't move. Then I smeared some Monte Marte Texture Paste through the stencil onto the cardstock.(I had misplaced my palette knives so I just used some plastic spoons and at times I even used my fingers to get an even coating!) Then I sprinkled some glitter of various shades like blue, green, teal etc onto the texture paste before it dried. I dabbed it in place. Then I removed the stencil carefully and washed it thoroughly with soap and water to get all the goop out.

3. I then rounded the corners of the cardstock with Martha Stewart's Swirling Lace Corner punch. I die cut a piece of vellum (x stitched rectangle die-Gina Marie Designs) to stamp my sentiment so that it stands out from the busy background. I used the Diwali Mudra Stamp for the sentiment and stamped it in shades of blue and green (archival ink by ranger). To add some more bling to the sentiment I added some blue rhinestones (kundans).

4. For the Cardbase I chose a shade of blue and cut it 11 inches by 7.5 inches. Using the martha stewart scoreboard, scored it at 5.5 inches and folded it in half. The feathery cardstock I prepared was adhered to a corner of the cardbase to give a slight edge over the conventional! Then I adhered the vellum (applied glue and foam tape under the rhinestones so it didn't show through) to the card.

Thanks for your time! hope you liked this card!! Do leave some comments :) love reading your thoughts and ideas on my work. Stay Blessed!
