Post 487: Vintage Art Journal Spread- Live (Inspiration for Art Playground Blog's October Play)

Hi folks!
Good Morning :)

Art Playground Blog's October Play is on. There is still time to play along, all the details for it can be found HERE. We have fabulous sponsors, lots of inspiration & ideas, so please do link up your beautiful entries !

For the October Play Inspiration, I've made a Vintage Art Journal Spread-"Live" I was inspired by the theme, "My Muse" and the gorgeous moodboard colors that reminded me of the autumn season. My inspiration comes from different sources. A lot of times, my muses come to me in the form of beautiful & unique photographs of strangers. I find nature to be my favourite source of inspiration. I like to incorporate natural elements into my artwork. For example, in this art journal spread, I've used a beautiful vintage photograph of a girl, my old book pages dyed with coffee, raffia & dried husk collected during a holiday & wood slices from my family's farm. I wanted the whole piece to be earthy, organic and very autumny.

Post 468: Grungy Art Journal Spread- Original (Inspiration for Art Playground Blog's August Play)

Hi friends :)

I'd like to share a Grungy Mixed Media Art Journal Spread- "Original".
This is my DT inspiration for Art Playground Blog's August Play.

There is still time to play along with the challenge, all the details for it can be found HERE. We have 4 fabulous sponsors, lots of inspiration & ideas, so please do link up your beautiful entries !

For the August Play Inspiration, I was inspired by the theme, "Be Authentic" and the gorgeous moodboard colors. As a psychologist, authenticity is a very important theme for me because it is relevant to art as well as in clinical psychology. Through these pages, I wanted to show how important it is to be yourself, even when it is difficult to do so. Being oneself takes courage & we as individuals as well as artists/crafters need to constantly remind ourselves to do that which makes our soul & inner self happy.

Grungy Mixed Media Art Journal Spread- "Original"

Synopsis of the Process:

I created the background by collaging torn pieces of paper from old book pages (in hindi), washi tapes & fabric tapes. Then applied clear gesso to the surface and colors using distress inks, distress oxides & distress paints. Then did background stamping with Mudra Craft Stamps using distress inks and archival inks. To add more interest to the background, did background stencilling with an Art Anthology stencil using blue colored modelling paste. I wanted the background not to compete with the foreground, so I pushed it back by adding black and white gesso with a palette knife. The focal elements were fussy cut from AB Studio's Be Gentle Paper Collection. For layering, used Sizzix alteration die cuts & thread. Added some scribbles with black and white markers to add to the grungy look. Then added the titles using TH stickers & created some ink splatters. Scribbled on a grungy border in black and darkened the edges of the pages with black soot distress ink. In the end, added blue & grey Nuvo Crystal drops & a few mini beads around the focal clusters.

Look forward to seeing your beautiful work xoxo

For the July Play Inspiration, I made a Grungy Vintage Art Journal Spread- "Embrace Your Journey". I was inspired by the theme, "Tell Your Story" and the gorgeous moodboard colors. I wanted to show the journey of a woman's life, from youth to old age.

Here are some photographs of the Art Journal Spread:

Synopsis of the Process:

I created the background by collaging torn pieces of paper from old book pages, decoupage papers, washi tapes & fabric tapes. Then applied clear gesso to the surface and colors using distress inks and distress oxides. Then did background stamping with archival inks. To add more interest to the background, did background stencilling with AB Studio stencils (using archival ink and modelling paste). The focal elements are paper dolls by Tim Holtz, for layering, used die cuts, gauze, crochet lace, thread and buttons. Added some scribbles with black and white markers to add to the grungy look. Then added the titles using TH stickers & created some ink splatters. In the end, darkened the edges of the pages with black soot distress ink.
